Trinity Lutheran Church offers an “English as a Second Language” conversation group. Every year students, researchers, and visiting professors from all over the world (and their families) come to Norman and to the OU community. On Saturday mornings, volunteers from Trinity present talks on topics of interest from Oklahoma and American culture, followed by English language practice in small groups. A Bible study is also offered, and there are wonderful opportunities to make friendships along the way. Join us for one Saturday or for more – no obligation. You’ll be glad you did!

MAY NEWS
Hello everyone!
If you have lived in Norman for even a year or two, you have become familiar with the annual rhythms of a university town. You know that mid-May marks a mass exodus of students and academics as the spring semester winds down. This is what is coming for us in the ESL group as well. Our Brazilian visiting scholars are preparing to return to Brazil. BUT our PhD students and their families will be here for most of the summer. As we navigate this, we have plans for end-of-the semester events such as our “Student Presentation Day” and our International Food Day (always a big favorite!).
Here is the schedule for late April and May:
- April 25: Presentation by Stephanie Burge on Weddings in the US
- May 2: Student presentations. Our group members will have the opportunity to practice their public speaking skills as they give a short presentation on a topic of their choice
- May 9: International Foods Day. We will meet in the church fellowship hall for a lunch of foods from our home countries. Join us! You will be glad you did.
And then there is that long summer break. We are planning some activities for the group – maybe once a month – to keep things going. Watch this space for details and join us! Get to know our students.
Prayer requests:
- For the families and friends of our Iranian friends: H., P. and A., and Z. So far everyone seems to be safe, but there is a lot of worry by our students who have family still in Iran.
- For those with visa concerns, that their status would be settled and allow them to continue their research and work.
- For opportunities to connect with students over the summer.
