Trinity Lutheran Church offers an “English as a Second Language” conversation group. Every year students, researchers, and visiting professors from all over the world (and their families) come to Norman and to the OU community. On Saturday mornings, volunteers from Trinity present talks on topics of interest from Oklahoma and American culture, followed by English language practice in small groups. A Bible study is also offered, and there are wonderful opportunities to make friendships along the way. Join us for one Saturday or for more – no obligation. You’ll be glad you did!

JANUARY NEWS
We are in the fall semester wind-down as the end of December approaches.
On December 6th, 5 of our ESL group (3 adults and 2 kids) helped to decorate the church for Christmas. On December 14th, we enjoyed an “International Food Share Day.” We took over the church kitchen and made foods from our home cultures – US and international. Then we enjoyed an international food lunch together. There was a total of 8 students and 3 children plus 7 volunteers participating. We invited the group to see the church decorated for Christmas and most of them accepted the invitation. This led to many questions and conversations about the banner messages, the nativity figures, and the Chrismons decorating the Christmas tree. What a joy it was to answer them!
Our schedule for the rest of the year and into January is as follows:
- December 20: The group will go to Chickasha to see the light display in Shannon Springs Park
- December 24: ESL group members are invited to the Christmas Eve service at 7:00
- December 25: Some ESL group members have expressed an interest in attending Christmas Day service
- January ?: Possible game night
- January 19: ESL group Saturday morning meeting begin for OU spring semester
We are looking for presenters for the spring semester. If you are willing to give a talk on some aspects of Oklahoma or US culture, let me know. If you are willing to present and don’t yet have an idea for a topic, let me know. I would be happy to meet with you about possible ideas. You would be surprised at what sorts of topics lead to great conversations for our group members.
