Trinity Lutheran Church offers an “English as a Second Language” conversation group. Every year students, researchers, and visiting professors from all over the world (and their families) come to Norman and to the OU community. On Saturday mornings, volunteers from Trinity present talks on topics of interest from Oklahoma and American culture, followed by English language practice in small groups. A Bible study is also offered, and there are wonderful opportunities to make friendships along the way. Join us for one Saturday or for more – no obligation. You’ll be glad you did!

JUNE NEWS
The OU semester has ended, and our regular Saturday morning ESL meetings are on hiatus for the summer. Our last meeting on May 10 was so much fun as we prepared and shared foods from the home cultures of our students and of our volunteers. It was also an emotional time for us as we said goodbye to several of our students who will be moving to a different university to finish their studies or who are returning to their home countries. There were tears, photos, and promises of prayers as they move forward from their time here at OU and with our group.
We have plans for a few events throughout the summer to keep in contact with group members who will still be in the area, but we won’t start back for our regular schedule until September. Please consider joining us for one Saturday or more and get to know our international community.
And now our prayer requests:
- Pray for H, who is returning to her home country, that she will continue to listen to God and be guided by His purpose for her, even as she faces cultural pressures that may be contrary to them.
- Pray for P as she may have to move to another university to complete her studies, that she would find another Christian group there and hear God’s word.
- Pray for N who moved to a new job in another state. Pray that he would find a Christian community there and continue to grow in his faith.
- Pray that God would guide C to a new opportunity as many of the post-doctoral programs he was applying for have lost federal funding and he faces visa issues.
- Pray for A, the daughter of one of our students who has serious medical issues.
- Pray for all of our students as many are facing loss of funding for their research and possible visa challenges. The uncertainty is so difficult for them and their families!
If you are willing to pray for one of our students on a regular basis, I can give you a name and more details of their prayer needs. Just talk to me or send me an email at vickieloemker.1@gmail.com
